Hey guys
So I really wanted to get a good lighting rig setup with a professional looking clay shader to apply to any model I want to quickly render. I used this skull I sculpted a while back as a test piece.
After many attempts I think I am finally happy with the result.
This blog is a place where I will showcase my work, both personal and professional, to the public. I work at a feature film company called Luma Pictures where I work with a fantastic team of great artists to help greate visual effects for the latest and greatest films. If you have any questions dont hesitate to shoot me an email. I hope you enjoy my blog Tom Newbury CG

Orc Helmet Designs
Hey guys
So I did a couple of helmet designs for my orc character I am sculpting at the moment and ran a poll over at my Facebook page to get a vote on what helmet was the best because I liked them both.
In the end the votes were pretty close and I decided to combine design elements from both of the helmets.
I am really happy with the design in the end.

Thor The Dark World
Hey everyone!
So I got all of my reel footage from Thor The Dark World which I helped work on.
I will put a descriptor below each image to explain what exactly I did in each shot because every movie is a group effort and I have to thank the rest of my amazing team for the final outcome.

In this shot I was in charge of sculpting the plinth including the symbol around the base of the obolisc, I also did a big part in the sculpting of the background tombs.
Here I was in charge of sculpting the interior of the obolisc, this was very high res geometry with a lot of fine details because it was so close to camera.
For these 3 images I did the modelling, textures and shaders for everything, obviously apart from the characters because they were the only real thing in the shot.
For these last 2 images I had to create matte paintings to get the shots to final. The top one of the earth I helped in layering images and painting in clouds, water and land to help sell the image. I had to recreate roughly two thirds of the background in the bottom image. The plate wasn't big enough so I had to extend the plate from all sides.

WIP on the Orc
Hey everyone!
Just some work in progress on my Orc, adding a body and then onto the armor and such.
Lots more work to go on the body before that though.
Keep a look out for more updates of this guy soon.

Rock Tutorial ZBrush
Hey everyone!
I have been doing a lot of rock sculpting at work recently and came up with a pretty good workflow for creating a specific type of rock.
Think I will also do a layered type of rock tutorial to follow.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask through youtube.

Eye dev
Hey everyone
These are just some eyes I had a go at creating in my spare time at home.
I am thinking of doing a tutorial for those who may be interested in my process.
These still need a bit of tweaking but you get the idea.

I got to work on some really cool assets on both these films and it was a great experience.
Here is the trailer to the upcoming Captain America Film if you havn't seen it yet!

World Machine Tests
So with my new job I have found myself having to quickly create environments for production. I was really stumped on how I could create a land mass without having to do too much manual sculpting. I found out about WorldMachine which is freakin great, you can create basically any type of land mass you want and then bring it into zbrush or maya and use it as a base to build on top of. Here is what I managed to wip up today.
T-REX
A sculpt I started working on and havnt gotten around to finishing, like most of my projects recently.
Hopfully I will be able to get back to it soon enough.

Hey guys and gals!
I have been busy with my new job for the past 4 weeks, but I have managed to keep something in the works, which I work on for a couple of hours each night and a bit more on the weekends. It's one of my childhood favorites! Leonardo from TMNT!
This version is quite stylized, it was the style which was in my head when I started the character, I am quite happy with how it has come along thus far. I plan to also make a custom base for him and get the model printed so I can have it on my desk at work!
I hope you like it!
This is about 75% complete.
Sword design is next!

Hey guys!
So yesterday I got a job with Luma Pictures in Melbourne Australia.
I got the position of Modelling/Texture artist.
This is truly a dream job for me and I can't wait to start on Jan 3rd.
It looks like a fantastic place to work and an awesome bunch of people.
Here is a look at their website if you are unfamiliar with their studio: http://lumapictures.com/
Personal work may start to slow down once I start working, although I will attempt to keep doing some in my spare time.
Thanks for the support so far guys!
Tom.

Cyber Rabbit Posed
Hey everyone
So I finally managed to get the cyber rabbit posed...
Took a bit of screwing around but yea finally did it!
I also realised that I havn't posted a back shot yet, so here it is, this is the area I had to make up myself because I had no design to follow.

Think Tank
Hey everyone
Here is a short animation I made for Think Tank, a small business. It took roughly 2 weeks for me to make. I did the modelling, textures, lighting, rigging, rendering, animation and compositing. The concept of the film was by Michael Lai and the audio was done by my friend Ahmed Nashabe.
I hope you like it.

Cyber Rabbit Project
Hey!
So for the past week I have been working on one of my biggest piece's ever, trying to put together everything I have learnt in the past 2 years into one sculpture. I found this fantastic concept artwork painted by Constantin Maystrenko called Cyber Rabbit.
I am very close to completing the model, just a few more details and adjustments to go.
Here are some screen shots of the WIP.
The next time I post here it should be of the finished model rendered in Vray. So Keep an eye on this page for that update.
Enjoy

Skull Head
Been busy working so havn't really had time to work in ZBrush. Finally got a chance to play around in it. Took me 3hrs which was probably way too long but ah well, more practice.
Here is a time lapse of the first stage of sculpting it.
